Approved minutes of the Commissioners’ meetings for September 19, October 1 and 8, 2007.
Recognized three Wake County employees retiring:
Shirley M. Drake from the Community Services Department, Gladys C. Smith from the Register of Deeds office and Capt. Charles L. Young from the Sheriff's office.
Approved a resolution honoring the late Robert B. McGehee, former chairman and CEO of Progress Energy, who died October 9, 2007.
Proclaimed Thursday, October 25, 2007, Project Homeless Connect Day in Wake County.
Approved by consent all agenda items as follows:
Authorized the County Manager to negotiate and execute three multi-year contracts, subject to terms and conditions acceptable to the County Attorney, for disaster debris clearance and removal services with the following companies: Phillips & Jordan (primary), Ashbritt Environmental (secondary) and Crowder-Gulf (secondary).
Awarded a contract for the Courthouse seventh floor demolition and asbestos abatement in the amount of $532,325 to the firm Demolition and Asbestos Removal, Inc.
Acted on these items under the regular agenda:
Approved an agreement to appropriate funds to the North Carolina Ballet from Occupancy and Prepared Food Tax revenues.
Adopted the Schedules of Values for the 2008 Countywide Revaluation.
Tabled the second reading of a request from the Board of Education for the reallocation of CIP 2006 funds. The item has been placed on the November 5, 2007, agenda.
Declared the property located at 1109 Buckingham Road in Garner, NC (Tax ID# 0084466), as surplus County property, and directed staff to solicit offers for the purchase of the property in accordance with N.C. General Statute §160A-269.
Received the first reading from the Board of Education for a proposed land acquisition for an elementary school and future middle school in Fuquay-Varina. The item has been placed on the November 5, 2007, agenda.
Awarded a stream restoration and wetland enhancement contract for the South Wake Landfill in the amount of $1,032,477.50 to L-J, Inc. of Columbia, S.C. Approved the transfer of $85,000 form the Solid Waste Operating Fund to the Solid Waste Capital Fund.
Authorized the County Manager to execute a purchase agreement for the Medlin Open Space Tract of approximately 50.61 acres for $910,980.00, subject to terms and conditions acceptable to the county attorney.
