Approved minutes of the Commissioners’ meetings for May 7 and 11, 2007.
Recognized one retiring employee serving a minimum of 25 years with Wake County Government: Kenneth Cromartie from Environmental Services.
Approved by consent all agenda items as follows:
A three-year agreement with Verizon, Inc., for access to Verizon database for emergency response purposes.
A grant increase of $2,800 from the North Carolina Department of Correction’s Criminal Justice Partnership Program.
The execution of a Declaration of Conservation Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions as required by the US Army Corps of Engineers to restrict development on approximately 55 acres of County-owned property within the boundaries of the South Wake landfill.
Accepted $713,251.73 in workforce development funding for the Workforce Development Project Ordinance.

Received the County Manager’s Recommended Fiscal Year 2008 Budget for consideration and approved the following:
Hold a public hearing on the budget during the Board of Commissioner’s regular meeting on Monday, June 4, at 2 p.m., in the Board Room of the Courthouse, and also that day at 7 p.m. at the Wake County Commons Building.
Hold a Commissioners’ budget work session on Monday, June 11, at 9 a.m.
Consider the budget for adoption on Monday, June 18, during the Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting, which begins at 2 p.m.
Held a public hearing and approved a proposal to amend the Wake County land use plan for the proposed Franklin County Airport Overlay District.
Held a public hearing and approved an ordinance amendment to the Franklin County Airport Overlay District.
Held a public hearing and approved a proposal to apply a newly created airport overlay district to approximately 8,997 acres in Eastern Wake County’s jurisdiction that lies within the general vicinity of the Franklin County Airport.
Approved the transfer of $41,360 between Wake Technical Community College Capital Projects
Approved a request from Wake County Public Schools to enter into agreement a multi-year operating lease for the Dubois Center to operate a 9th-grade center.
Received a report on land acquisition for an elementary school in Apex (E-32), and the item will be placed on the June 4 agenda for consideration.
Received a report on land acquisition for an elementary school in the Wendell Area (E-34), and the item will be placed on the June 4 agenda for consideration.
Approved acquisition of approximately 2.5 acres for Marks Creek open space tract from Watson & Watson of NC, Ltd., Partnership, for approximately $31,250.
Received presentation of the proposed site for the new Leesville library.
Approved acceptance of grant funding to purchase six neighborhood electric vehicles.
Made appointments to various boards, commissions and committees.
Authorized staff to proceed with the following acquisition to support the development of the Little River Reservoir Project
approximately 9.77 acres owned by Alvester H. Perry and Romell Goodman Perry in the amount of $117,000; approximately 9.831 acres owned by J.L. Perry and Nina M. Perry in the amount of $208,000; and an agricultural lease for $1.00 per year for a period of no less than five years with Alvester H. Perry and J.L. Perry as a part of the consideration for the purchase of 9.77 acres from Alvester H. Perry and 9.831 acres for J.L. Perry.
